A Force
To Be Reckoned With
There have been many
successful sports clubs in Acklington and Guyzance over the years.
Football Clubs, Cricket Clubs and Badminton Clubs have come and gone…..
but there is one club that has been as successful and enduring as any of
them and it is still going strong today.
Acklington Carpet
Bowls Club
was founded in 1976 and despite one or two early
thrashings at the hands of more experienced clubs the team actually
ended that first season with more victories than defeats. In fact not
one season has passed where the number of defeats has been greater than
the number of victories. A minimum of twenty matches are played each
season against other clubs and the best season to date was in 1993 when
27 matches were played. Of theses 23 were won; 3 lost and 1 drawn.

The name
of Acklington has come to be respected all over the county as a
result of members being very successful in inter-club
competitions achieving winners and runners-up trophies on
numerous occasions in the three major disciplines of singles,
pairs and rinks.
Junior members too have played a significant part in the club’s
success. In 1986 Joanne Cock (pictured here on the right) won
the title of Junior Champion of Northumberland. Pictured below
